There are a range of estimates for the prevelenece – but all show it to be a major and common issue – as you will see every day in your practice

As veterinary professionals you know, better than most, the health impacts of obesity.  Pet obesity is one of the top welfare problems for pets

Overweight cats are at increased risk of developing, skin disease, hepatic lipidosis, oral cavity disease and urinary disease, whilst overweight dogs can suffer from, osteoarthritis, and urinary incontinence. In dogs, a high body condition has also been associated with a shorter life span 3salt.

Increased adiposity can also adversely affect respiratory function, cause metabolic derangements including insulin resistance, and affect renal function and health 4,5,6 german 2016.
